The sender, using a Manitoba Pool Elevators envelope, claimed that mail to a federal department rated O.H.M.S. service. Apparently this was not caught by the RPO clerk or the Ottawa post office. [ WINNIPEG & RIVERS R.P.O. / No.3, train 12, JUL 9 59 ]
This cover, evidently from a federal agency, shows O.H.M.S. but evidently did not qualify for free postage and the stamps were duly cancelled by the RPO clerk. The cover was put aboard the RPO car on a local run. [ WINNIPEG & M. JAW (LOCAL) R.P.O. / No.3, train 54, JUN 18 25 ]
This card was clearly marked "POSTAGE FREE" and so the RPO clerk simply postmarked it. Later, someone tried to improve the strike by inking in the lettering. [ ARMSTRONG STN. & WP'G R.P.O. / No.1, train 4, SP 22 49 ]
