The first main stop on our recent trip from Canmore - Waterton NP/Glacier(USA) - Cypress Hills was Waterton National Park.
The Prince of Wales Hotel is a signature structure there - built between 1926–1927
by the Great Northern Railway to lure American tourists north of the border during prohibition.

Visit with Jack and Barbara Blanton at Waterton: we were at Oregon State University at the same time as Jack and Barbara - Jack and Bob were both PhD students in Physical Oceanography. A few years later, they joined us to work on the Great Lakes, at Burlington, Ontario. They came up from Glacier Park to meet us in our 5th wheel for coffee. | ![]() lunch in the hotel

During our visit in Glacier, we saw more black bears and some Mountain Goats. It was great seeing the Blantons again after more than 30 years. We then spent another day at Waterton and moved eastward to the Cypress Hills. | ![]() outside by the lake

Cypress Hills: we spent a week in Cypress Hills Provincial Park. Gus had a great time, with many local mammals to stare at. Much of the time it was rainy and foggy, with finally our traditional camping snowfall. Where did all the other campers go?? We knew it was time to head home. for small birds, click here |
